about

Who is Hannibal Rex? What is Hannibal Rex? When is Hannibal Rex? Where is Hannibal Rex? Why Hannibal, why?

In short: we’ll be fucked if we know. All we know is it's 140bpm music, it’s probably not dubstep, but it's definitely not not dubstep.

From the heat blasted deserts of Australia to the wind ravaged pines of wildest Scotland, via that little service station on the M5 just outside Tewksbury where someone swore they once saw his face in a cup of mescaline laced Bovril the true story of Hannibal Rex is too long, rambling and factually facetious to be told here in full or in earnest.

To surmise: rumoured to be born of hardworking Northern stock in the early post-war years (the second really big shit war to be precise) a young Hannibal struck out alone and undaunted to pursue what will become known as his “dreamstate.” Crossing the equator to reconnect with the lands his family were thought to have originally emigrated from he fell into the company of a society known across the continent of Oceania as the Twelve Kings Of Rex.

It was during this time he learned music; playing rudimentary guitar under the stars with the accompanying ‘Churchbabes’ on bass, drums and keys respectively... and occasionally chucking out a Pitbull remix under his Freemasons alias to keep the lights on and relatively name-brand tinnies in the fridge.

After an unknown time immersed in the heat & the haze of the Kings’ arid courts of dusty excess Hannibal was convinced by The Twelve to apostatise all previous bloodlines and identity; swearing allegiance to the Kings and pledging never again to remove the masks which held the keys to his crown thus bonding him to his fellow Rex for life.

Reborn and repossessed, the nearly crowned Hannibal Rex took once more to the dust and the waves, embarking on a series of adventures to be regaled in full at a later date, which ultimately ended in his untimely extinction in early 1998 at the hands / paws and teeth of the very same Canis lupus magna (fucking great wolves) he had been tasked with reintroducing to the aforementioned wilds of Scotland on behalf of New Labour.

And now twenty two years on, at the end of a well rubbish decade, on the eve of the first leap year of a new decade, through what can only be described as a Shitual (shit ritual), performed at the swell of the highest tide for a generation: Hannibal Rex has risen.

A man of one tribe. A man of no name. A man of many masks but few allegiances: these are but four of The One Hundred & Forty Faces Of... Hannibal Rex.
